El Chilar

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014

Three by three. Three of our computer based learning students in El Chilar are our third year students with the computer based learning program in El Chilar. If we hadn’t made Grade 7, 8, and 9 available via the computer based learning program, they would have gone no further than 6th grade. What’s next for them. All I know is that they now have a chance to continue on and perhaps help break the chain of poverty in their communities. One of the girls wants to be a nurse.

Reminiscent of past days in Carrizalito

The last time I was at CARRIZALITO it was for the opening and a grand day it was! This was another … the whole community turned up for fun and games! We learned about germs and washing hands, did crafts, and the crowning glory was giving out a treat bag to each child. Karen wasn’t able to come for the opening two years ago and today she got a feel of the excitement and pride of the people in this school that she helped fund through A Better World and that the community built brick by brick.

We started the event with each child printing their names on the porch of the school

Next on the the agenda was the presentation about germs ... Where are they? Can you see them? How do we kill them?

Thank you for the great company… and…

Christiane. For your assistance both financially and in visiting Copan each year. She has been part of the projects since the beginning and shares her perspective, helps with activities and assessing the projects. I appreciate her interest in the projects and the people they serve.

Karen. For always being there to lend an ear to my joys and concerns. Her confidence in my choosing projects by financially supporting them (especially the school in Carrizalito) has been a great support over the years.

Scott. Our "newbie". This has been Scott's first trip to Copan. It has been great fun to see his reaction to the enthusiastic children, the projects, the long trips on rough roads, the food, and the people. He was able to see the school desks in Carrizalito that his donation bought.
