Another Meeting

Monday, March 31st, 2014

meeting1

…and it was to be an important one. Saul arranged for us to meet with the Ministry of Education from La Entrada, and the directors of Plan International to discuss piloting a computer based learning program. They have three communities that are eager to start, but I think we need to pilot it in one community as a trial.

In the afternoon we prepared the materials and treat bags for tomorrow’s event in the A Better World funded school in Carizalito.

The Mayatan Bilingual School

Saturday, March 29th, 2014

We toured the Mayatan bilingual school and met with teachers and the communications/fundraising director to hear about the school, its history and about its students. 47% of the students attending this excellent school would normally not be able to afford it, and are there on scholarship.

Whirlwind day

Saturday, March 29th, 2014

The first day of our trip is always “communication and planning” day. It means meeting with my key people here to arrange project visits and transportation to the communities.

The computer based learning program was started in El Chilar. Adin is the teacher in the community school, and the person who agreed to pilot the project. To assure that using the program would give his students the diplomas they need at the end of the year, he did his due diligence and visited the Department of Education in San Pedro Sula to discuss what had been done to approve the program and make sure the Department recognizes it, and the diplomas.

He presented me with a new proposal to expand the program and make it sustainable.
